RCBO
RCBO meaning in Australian protection, testing and circuit records.
RCBO as a combined device
RCBO is a protective-device term used for a device with residual-current and overcurrent protection context. In Australian switchboard and circuit records it often sits between RCD testing language and circuit-breaker product data.
That combined role is why the term should not be treated as just another spelling of RCD. The record needs to show which device is installed, which function is being reviewed and which product data applies to that circuit.
Two protection contexts
An RCBO record can carry residual-current test information and overcurrent or fault-duty information. Those parts should stay separate even when they belong to one physical device.
| Record context | Keep visible | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Residual-current side | test value, entered criterion and device label | Keeps RCD-style testing traceable |
| Overcurrent side | current rating, circuit context and product data | Prevents the record from becoming only an RCD note |
| Fault-duty review | breaking capacity and fault-current source | Shows where product data may control interpretation |
RCD test data vs breaker data
RCD test data and breaker data answer different questions. A residual-current test row does not describe every overcurrent rating, and a circuit-breaker rating does not replace residual-current test context.
The glossary page does not verify the RCBO or infer settings. Product data, project requirements and qualified testing remain controlling sources.
Using RCBO records
Use the protection device terms table for abbreviation context. Use the RCD test checker for entered residual-current test values, and keep any breaker-rating or breaking-capacity review in the relevant product-data record.
Source and review
Check the terminology source, review timing and Australian application before carrying this term into a project record.
